Diagnosis may include the following tests, depending on the individual history:
- EEG, EMG and ENG neurophysiologic diagnostic tests
- Ultrasound nerve studies - state-of-the-art ultrasound technology that can provide important insights into the cause, extent and location of peripheral nerve damage
- MRT or MRA studies
- Doppler/duplex sonography for diagnosis of vascular disease and stroke risk assessment
- Registration of evoked EP potentials. Evoked potentials are used to investigate the function of the brain sensory systems
- Neurography
- Brainstem reflexes
- Laboratory tests of blood and cerebrospinal (liquor) fluid, spinal tap if necessary,
- Gut function testing (H2 breath test for lactose, fructose and sorbitol)
- All imaging modalities, including magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography and other radiological methods of examination of the head and spine (examinations are performed by highly qualified modern radiology centers)
